today's devotions

Today I took the opportunity during naptime to sit down with my Bible and give the Holy Spirit the opportunity to speak to my heart. (Disclaimer: Please do not get an over-inflated idea of me as a Christian because of this. A personal walk with God is an area of my life that admittedly needs much growing! But I am working on it! :D ) My pastor once suggested this for a daily Bible reading schedule: Read Psalms everyday, and read the chapter numbers that correspond with the date. For example, today is the 16th, so I read Psalms 16, 46, 76, 106, 136. The times that I have done this, I have been fascinated that the chapters often carry a theme when grouped this way. This is what I feel the Holy Spirit gave me from my reading today (I encourage you to read the chapters for yourself, you will undoubtedly gain a blessing!!!): Psalm 16 - Decide to make God the Lord of your life. Trust Him and know that He won't fail you. Psalm 46 - No matter how scary the circumstances may seem, God is always in control, and provides a refuge for us. Psalm 76 - God is in control. He will make His glory known. Psalm 106 - Even the most dedicated Christian fails sometimes, and God's judgement is perfect. But how wonderful that God also has forgiveness and gives grace to get back on track! Psalm 136 - God's mercy endureth forever! Though the times are ever-changing, though we are imperfect, God's mercy endureth forever!!! And this is what makes living worth living!!

One of my favorite songs

"The Love of God" - Frederick Lehman

The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from his sin.

Refrain
O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure
The saints’ and angels’ song.

When years of time shall pass away,
And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
When men, who here refuse to pray,
On rocks and hills and mountains call,
God’s love so sure, shall still endure,
All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
The saints’ and angels’ song.

Refrain

Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above,
Would drain the ocean dry.
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.
